STAYTON, ORE. 19 SEPT., 2019—It can be a major challenge to afford meaningful upgrades to a school campus, especially a private school. Blanchet Catholic School needed a sports field, but in its 25 years of existence, the Salem-based private Catholic school did not have that infrastructure or resources. In its Vision 20/20 five-year plan, the school community identified a multi-purpose track and field as one of its top priorities.

“We are beyond excited to have this new turf field and track on our campus,” said Bob Weber, President of Blanchet Catholic School. “With the addition of the lights and grandstands, we will be hosting activities on our campus for years to come on the field and for the first time in our history, we will be able to host track meets on campus.”

The sports field project, which coincides with Blanchet's 25th anniversary as a school, has a budget of more than $2 million and is being supported by generous contributions from local businesses, current Blanchet families, alumni and additional Blanchet benefactors.

Blanchet hired Triplett Wellman as the general contractor to oversee the sports field expansion. Triplett worked with Lenity Architecture and brought together their experienced team of contractors to build the facility, including North Santiam Paving as the site development/civil contractor for the project and Green Acres Landscaping for the landscaping solutions.

NSP project manager Reid Highberger is pleased with how the project is rolling out. “NSP has performed the excavation; we’ve laid the utilities; installed a new fire water system; performed sewer realignment; installed a storm drain system—it’s a really comprehensive project. We prepped for the new grandstands, courtyard and field events, and just completed the asphalt paving for the new track.” This work included the placement of over 13,000 tons of aggregate—from the open-graded rock for the storm water detention and drainage system under the new turf field, to the rocking and fine grading needed for all other asphalt and concrete areas.

Triplett Wellman project manager Steve Duch says NSP is entering the final weeks of project completion. “The project is an extremely tightly-scheduled project because the delivery date is homecoming for Blanchet, Oct. 18. Despite the tight timelines, everything is proceeding really well. We’re projecting the game will go as planned that day!”

This sports field is considered “the centerpiece” in Blanchet’s $4.5 million “Complete the Dream” capital campaign, which kicked off in Oct. 2018.  Additional aspects of the campaign include enhancements for growing the STEM program, renovations to the Wiegand Auditorium, and an increase in tuition assistance funds to help ensure a Blanchet education is available for all qualified and interested families.
