With cargo theft a growing problem, the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) is asking motor carriers and freight brokers to participate in a new survey. Cargo theft has gone from thieves simply stealing cargo to more sophisticated impersonation schemes, which means shippers and carriers need to be more aware and take the necessary steps to keep cargo safe.
The FBI estimates that $15 to $30 billion is lots to cargo theft each year, which is why ATRI has prioritized as a research topic. Given that many industry stakeholders are hesitant to public provide cargo theft data, the ATRI survey will confidentially and anonymously collect data and identify counter-strategies used by both motor carriers and freight brokers.
